Sit and Go tournament Strategy

I am not really going to go all over the Sit and Go strategies in details, but I am going to explain the basics and that will help any poker player entering a Sit and Go tournament to know, more or less, what to do and not to do in all the stages of the tournament.

It doesn't matters which game is played in the Sit and Go tournament, whether it's Texas Holdem poker, Omaha poker or 7 stud poker, the first thing to understand about Sit and Go tournaments is that they should be referred to by 3 different parts: The first stage, the middle stage and the last stage.

Each of these 3 stages requires different approaches and strategies and they are very different by the way of calculating odds and by the chances a player should take.

The most important thing to remember when playing in a sit and go tournament is that the winner takes it all, which means your chances of winning anything are best if you manage to stay in as long as possible. This of course requires being patient, avoiding risky moves and playing it low till the end.

Hungarian conquering online poker

Many online poker rooms are trying to get into the eastern European market for the last 3 years or so, but only recently there has been a significant rising in the Hungarian market.

Other than the fact that there are many poker players conquering the different poker tournaments including the WSOP with many bracelet winners, the EPT and others.

Maybe the success of so many Hungarian in the well known international poker tournaments is the reason, or maybe it’s the economy which has caused so many unemployed people looking for alternative ways of making money.

Peter Gelencser winning the last PartyPoker European challenge

Peter Gelencser, a young rising star in the world of poker. This 20 year old poker player took home first place with over 160,000 Euro in the European challenge held by Party Poker.

I was especially impressed by Gelencser’s quiet style, as opposed to his 2007 performance. While in the 2007 games he stood up throughout all the games but failed to reach the top, this year he was not even noticed till the few last rounds and ended up taking first place.

Big Disappointment for the WPT held in Slovakia

Big Disappointment for the WPT, (World poker tour) which took place in Slovakia. The event didn’t attract as many people as the organizer expected. Local participants say that there were only 100 players so far.

The winner of the first stage was the Hungarian poker player – Richard Toth. It’s not really a big surprise since Toth is an experienced poker player and has already won the forth position in the WPT that was held in the Bellagio.

Love in the WSOP

Call me sentimental, call this post a terrible cliché that needs to be erased upon release, I don’t care, I am still going to right it. ‘And what am I going to write about?’ You ask, well I am going to write about love. ‘But this is a poker blog’ you say, and yes I can hear you and I see you hand moving toward the back button, but WAIT! I am going to right about love in the poker world.

This is an important issue for me to right about since poker players has a reputation of being loners, detached poker faced sunglasses people and although it’s completely true in most cases, there are still parts of us which are same as regular humans. We fall in love too and we marry, yes I wrote Marry. To prove my point I will bring here 2 beautiful love stories that started in the WSOP environment and are, till this post date of issue any way, still leaving happily ever after.

I am referring to Jennifer Harman & Marco Traniello and the newlyweds Chad Brown & Vanessa Rousso. Their relationship is an example for all of you cynical out there claiming poker player, like artists, must die alone in a dark corner with a whiskey bottle half empty, a pack of cards and some poker chips in our pockets.
So here’s to you poker couples, hang on and keep inspiring us all.

My Money is on Phil Ivey

There is still some time to pass between now and November 11th and since betting is something that we enjoy very much I am going to start a bet on this year's WSOP winner. The betting is not on real money but on honor. You are all welcome to place you personal opinions and the winner will get his comment converted into a post and an option to add a picture, (if she or he would want to).

I am going to start with my personal bet – Phil Ivey. So here goes:

Five reasons why Phil Ivey has a good chance of taking this year's WSOP no limit hold'em:

  • First of all, he is the youngest poker player to have won 7 WSOP bracelets.
  • He's already won 2 bracelets this year.
  • He never won a no limit Hold'em bracelets and the rumors are he is eager to make this year the first one to get it.
  • He demonstrated a hell of gaming technique and coolness in the events so far.
  • He has a lot of experience in high pressured events such as the final table in this WSOP.

Phil Ivey is still standing and the end of the WSOP is closing in

The world series of poker 2009 is getting close to the final run and it has been very entertaining so far. Not surprising but still worth mentioning is the finalists in this year's tournament: We have the great Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari, Dennis Philips and many other good and well known poker players. This year, like every year, I was keeping my eyes out for new talents and actually found a refreshing discovery – People please meet Leo Margets. She is the last woman still standing at this point and from the way she has been playing so far I can see how she is not going to make it easy on the other sharks competing against.
